Scott Hail – Author, Raconteur

September 2nd, 2010 by hail

RACE RIDER is my second book to be published.  The other was a local publisher in Utah.

The book, coming out for Christmas, I hope, is the story of what happens to Jack Sh0rt who is about 4 foot 8 at the end of his sophomore year.  He feels invisible.  During the summer, the best job he can get at Hollywood Park Racetrack is shoveling manure in the barns.  Find out what happens when he discovers that he’s nine feet tall on the back of a racing thoroughbred.

RACE RIDER is based, loosely, on a short story titled JOCKEY SHORTS, which was written to be sent to Boy’s Life Magazine.  That is non-history, but if anyone would like to read JOCKEY SHORTS, please let me know and I’ll send you an e-copy.  You get an idea about Jack and his affinity for horses.  The family characters don’t change their names, but their response to Jack is improved in the book over the story.

Excited about China

August 15th, 2010 by hail

This is a first-time blog.  I’m confidant I’ll get better with practice.

I’m getting more excited about RACE RIDER going to China in just two weeks.  This is the first time in more than sixty years English language authors have been invited to exhibit in the Beijing Book Exhibition, and RACE RIDER is on its’ way.  In fact, I think I know more about what will be happening in China than what is going on here.  Near as I can tell we will have a book to hold within the next 3-4 months.  As long as we’re in the market before Christmas, right?
